Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien presents this new documentary examining the recording of Five Leaves Left, Nick Drake’s debut LP released in 1969, and the story behind a forthcoming box set. This new release, The Making Of Five Leaves Left, features a wealth of previously unheard material including studio work-in-progress outtakes and reel to reel recordings of Nick Drake taped while he was at Cambridge University. The documentary features newly sourced interviews including Nick’s sister, actress Gabrielle Drake, Cally Callomon of the Nick Drake estate, John Wood & Joe Boyd who respectively engineered and produced the original LP, Paul De Rivaz- a fellow Cambridge University student & friend who recorded and preserved a reel to reel recording for over 50 years, Micky Astor-who played with Nick at the Roundhouse in December 1968, & Richard Morton Jack the author of the definitive Nick Drake biography.
The documentary is an examination of the recording of the original album contextualising the newly revealed archive material within a framework of Nick Drake's life story in the period from 1967-1969.
