A Tea Clipper, Sail Training and The Tall Ships Races Aberdeen
Mark Stephen and Rachel Stewart with stories from the great outdoors.
This week it’s anchors aweigh for Out of Doors as we are live from the Tall Ships Races in Aberdeen.
Tall ships from around the globe and hundreds of thousands of people are descending on the city for four days of celebration and we’re there to soak up the atmosphere on opening day.
Rachel and Mark meet a myriad of live guests on the dock, including Emma Wadee, Aberdeen City Council's Tall Ships Project Manager, who has been busy helping to organise the massive four day event.
The Greyhope Bay area at Torry Battery overlooking the harbour is one of the best spots in the UK for dolphin watching. Rachel goes spotting with Rosie Baillie from the Greyhope Bay nature centre to chat about what makes this such a prime location to find the mammals.
Mark visits Pocra Quay to talk to Aberdeen Line 200 Lead Historian David Henry about the legacy of the Aberdeen based shipping company that built the famous clipper ship the Thermopylae.
Rachel meets 15-year-old Mollie Mason before she sets off on her first sailing experience as part of the Tall Ships Races route to Kristiansand in Norway.
Mark chats to former seafarer John Corall about how adventures at sea can provide an education like no other.
The Port of Aberdeen is bustling all year round and Rachel catches up with Harbour Master Benji Morrison at the nerve centre of operations – the top of the big black tower on the North Pier.
