As a remake of The Naked Gun hits cinemas this summer, Ellen and Mark ask, are remakes actually worth our time?

As a remake of The Naked Gun hits cinemas this summer, Ellen and Mark ask, are remakes actually worth our time?

Mark speaks to film critic Anne Billson about the history of remakes throughout cinema history, from John Carpenters The Thing to directors remaking their own films. Mark then speaks to director Jim McBride who in 1983 directed a remake that Mark considers superior to the original; the Richard Gere starring Breathless, a remake of Jean-Luc Godard's French New Wave classic, A Bout De Souffle.

Ellen then explores the confusing world of TV remakes, reboots and requels with TV critic Roxana Hadadi. They discuss why the TV anthology Fargo may or may not be a remake as well as the value of adapting a film for TV.
