Rachmaninov from the Royal Albert Hall

Elizabeth Alker showcases the best performances from the UK and beyond, including another chance to hear Vadym Kholodenko playing Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 at the Proms.

Elizabeth Alker showcases the best performances by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ orchestras, choirs, ensembles and other great performing groups from Europe and around the globe.

Throughout the summer season we’ll be offering another chance to hear some of the best music-making at this year’s ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms. Today’s highlights include Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko performing Rachmaninov’s much-loved Piano Concerto No. 2 with the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Tadaaki Otaka, who also combine in another concerto - Lutoslawski's Concerto for Orchestra.

Plus we shine a light on the former Radio 3 New Generation Artists performing this week at the Proms. Today, pianist Beatrice Rana plays a selection of Mendelssohn's Songs without Words from a recent solo recital in Paris, and baritone James Newby sings Finzi's cycle Earth and Air and Rain.

But it's not all about the Proms - we’re also visiting other summer music festivals, across Europe and beyond. All this week we’ll hear from the MUSIQ3 festival in Brussels, including Hervé Niquet conducting Le Concert Spirituel in Handel’s Coronation Anthems.

From the MUSIQ3 Festival in Brussels:
George Frideric Handel
