Episode 1 - Altered States

Tim Hayward takes a mind-altering look at the science, culture, history - and future - of psychedelics.

During his 14 days in a coma back during the early days of Covid, Tim Hayward’s days and nights were alive with strange, incandescent visions and hallucinations, that are now every bit as real in his memory as any other events in his life.

In this ten-part series, Tim sets out to uncover and better understand the substances that induce altered states - psychedelics. There’s been a surge of interest in their therapeutic potential, and as research ramps up again after years of taboo and prohibition, and during a global mental health crisis, he tries to get to grips with - or at least get a clearer sense of - what psychedelics do, what our relationship with them is, and what it all might mean.
