Delius - A Yorkshireman?

Presenter Nick Ahad explores the life, music and identity of composer Frederick Delius - Yorkshireman, child of immigrants, and reluctant Englishman.

Composer Frederick Delius, born in Bradford to immigrant parents, defied expectations and pursued music instead of the family wool business. Though he left Yorkshire early and once described Bradford as “filthy,” his deep ties remained -reflected in his love of cricket and local landscapes, all found in his later compositions.

As Bradford celebrates its status as UK City of Culture in 2025, presenter Nick Ahad explores the life of the composer and reflects on how his international voice resonates in today's world.
