c. 20.30pm Interval: Helen Wallace, the Head of Music at the Barbican Centre in London, joins Ian Skelly live at the Royal Albert Hall to introduce Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and discuss the appeal of depicting artwork that has exercised composers across the ages.

Chopin Piano Competition-winner Bruce Liu 鈥� hailed for the 鈥榖reathtaking beauty鈥� of his playing 鈥� makes his Proms debut with Tchaikovsky鈥檚 rarely performed Second Piano Concerto. He joins the Philharmonia Orchestra and Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali for a work that balances the intimacy of chamber music with huge scope and virtuosity. Take a visit to Mexico City鈥檚 cabarets and dance halls in Gabriela Ortiz鈥檚 Antr贸polis 鈥� a vivid homage to urban nightlife 鈥� while Mussorgsky鈥檚 Pictures at an Exhibition conjures an orchestral kaleidoscope of strange scenes and images, climaxing with the splendour of the Great Gate of Kyiv.
