Elizabeth Alker showcases the best performances from summer festivals including Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition played by the Philharmonia Orchestra at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms.

Throughout the summer we’ll be hearing from some of the best music-making at this year’s ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms. Today's highlights include Maurice Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's ever popular Pictures at an Exhibition played by the Philharmonia Orchestra and conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, and Richard Strauss's Symphonic Fantasy drawn from his opera Die Frau ohne Schatten performed by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano.

Plus we shine a light on the former and current Radio 3 New Generation Artists performing this week at the Proms. Today, violinist Janine Jansen performs Leonard Bernstein's Serenade after Plato's Symposium with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Gaffigan.

And there are highlights from the Edinburgh International Festival too, with summer music making from the Scottish capital.
