Dreamy dubbed out sounds inspired by Carnival…with Zakia

Zakia celebrates the Notting Hill Carnival, with dreamy dub selections. Plus, writer and broadcaster Edward George delves into the connections between dreaming and dub.

DJ, broadcaster, writer and dreamer Zakia Sewell provides the soundtrack to your dreams - playing music to ease the mind, soothe the soul, and open portals to new dimensions…

It's Carnival weekend…Zakia celebrates by drawing for some of her favourite dub, reggae sounds and Nyabinghi rhythms. There are classics from King Tubby, Count Ossie & Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, and Steel An’ Skin. Plus, lots of brand new releases to float away to…including from Cosmic Tones Research Trio, Takao, and Roger Ekman. As well as a song that was delivered to Zakia via the dream gods…

Zakia is helped along with her Carnival celebrations by the much admired writer, film-maker, writer and broadcaster, Edward George. Host and brilliant mind behind the radio series and listening project, the Strangeness of Dub on Morley College Radio, where he delves into the sound worlds of dub, seeing dub as a site of radical possibilities channelled through sound. On Dream Time, he tells us a bit about the mysteries of dub, and its connection with dreaming…and he transports us to his memory of the sound systems of Jah Shaka under the Westway in the late 70s, one of his favourite memories of the Carnival.
