With a bank holiday weekend to look forward to, Adam Frost has a few things to be getting on with in the garden. His mini-meadow needs some attention, he’s got a shady container to plant up, and in the borders, there are seeds to collect.

In West Yorkshire, prairie planting is the order of the day when a retired GP shows Frances Tophill around his stunning garden. And at Long Barn Gardens in Kent, Advolly Richmond retraces the footsteps of renowned garden designer and writer Vita Sackville-West.

There’s a chef turned gardener who loves nothing more than to grow a tasty array of veg. Plus an inspiring visit to Suffolk, where a man has spent the last 14 years creating the garden of his dreams.

Adam's shady container

Adam's shady container

Adam's a great fan of foliage. Flowers come and go, but for him it's all about combining plants with different shaped leaves. This helps to add another layer of interest and with this particular container, he's concentrated on using plants that will thrive in the shade. Over the coming months, their performance will be monitored before they go out into the garden. Here's a list of what he used in order of appearance.
