Experience the 鈥榚lectric atmosphere鈥� of a performance by the Chineke! Orchestra 鈥� Europe鈥檚 first minority Black and ethnically diverse orchestra. They perform Shostakovich鈥檚 10th Symphony: over 50 minutes of brutality, violence, despair and terror, followed by two minutes of triumph. A portrait of life 鈥� and death 鈥� in Stalin鈥檚 Russia, it鈥檚 a fierce act of musical testimony. The Prom opens with the steady thrum of Coleridge-Taylor鈥檚 orchestral dance The Bamboula, while works by US composers James Lee III and Valerie Coleman form the concert鈥檚 American-accented centre.
