Builth Wells 13

Can experts Kate Bliss and Thomas Forrester help to deliver profits for their teams of friends on today’s episode from mid-Wales?

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ delivery is a multi-billion-pound industry, but it all started with one enterprising Welshman. Pryce Jones was a draper who sold Welsh flannel to customers around the world long before distribution centres were ever imagined. His most prestigious clients included Florence Nightingale and Queen Victoria, who knighted him in 1887 for his services to commerce. David Harper visits Newtown Textile Museum to learn about Jones’s business empire in the 1800s and why he’s considered to be the pioneer of a global mail order industry now worth around £75bn.

At nearby Builth Wells antiques fair, two teams hope to amass a small fortune when they go shopping for three profitable collectibles with their experts, Thomas Forrester and Kate Bliss. On the red team with Thomas are long-time friends Margaret and Doreen. On the blue team are pals and ornithologists Reece and Tom, who hope to fly to victory.

With an hour on the clock, the red team spot a Churchill bronze bulldog figurine, but it’s oh no, no, no when they see the price tag! Tom is taken with a wooden strong box bound in iron, but his team don’t reckon it’ll unlock a profit.

Newtown is also the venue for today’s auction with Ben Lloyd. He shares his estimates on the teams’ lots with David, then tries to hammer out profits in front of a roomful of bidders.
