Virginia Woolf: A Night's Darkness, A Day's Sail

A film, first broadcast in 1970, that celebrates the life and work of author Virginia Woolf through the memories of her friends and relations.

A film that celebrates the lyricism of Virginia Woolf's writing and, through the memories of her friends and relations, paints a portrait of a dedicated artist and a unique companion. It also tries to show how the contradictions in her character were triumphantly resolved in her art.

Among the many people taking part in the film are Elizabeth Bowen, Lord David Cecil, Duncan Grant, Raymond Mortimer, George Rylands and Virginia Woolf's nephew, Professor Quentin Bell.
