Hot Chip – Joy in Repetition
Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip talks to Stephen about the new ‘best-of’ album Joy in Repetition.
Formed at school and forged by friendship, Hot Chip have carved a singular sound shaped by everything from gospel to Kraftwerk, disco to Brian Wilson and Royal Trux to Prince. For over two decades, that intense love of music, with all it’s contradictions, has helped them create melodies that somehow manage to crystalise sadness and joy, at the same time. The release of their first ‘best-of’ album, Joy in Repetition, is a perfect entry point for anyone unfamiliar with their music but also a great premise to take a look back at the story so far. Alexis Taylor joins Stephen to reflect on the Hot Chip journey and to celebrate the songs.
