Coney Island - It's Astral Weekend on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Ulster
Eve Blair takes Van Morrison's road trip to 'Coney Island' in Co Down and hears about the history and the stories from the people who live there.
It’s a very special Your Place and Mine broadcasting from the St Patrick’s Centre in Downpatrick. We follow in the footsteps of Van Morrison's road trip to 'Coney Island' as he celebrates his 80th birthday. Eve Blair travels to the Lighthouse at St John’s Point and does a bit of bird watching with expert Dot Blakely. We hear about the 11 year old sailor fascinated by the waters of Strangford Lough. Next, it's up to Shrigley, a model village, created by the linen trade and a village that’s been demolished, and forgotten, but not by everyone. Then on to Killyleagh Castle and we meet up with the owner Gawan Rowan Hamilton as he shares his memories of 'Van the Man' performing at his home. Lecale next where Eve got into the ‘jam jar’ to see the Glebe House Stud farm on the road to Ballee. We hear about the gutter girls up to their elbows in herrings at Ardglass. Plus, we have a special performance from Matt McGinn singing some of Van Morrison’s greatest hits.
Presented by Eve Blair.
