The Southwell Consort mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Palestrina with polyphony and chant at St Dominic's Priory Church, London.
This year marks the 500th Anniversary of the birth of the composer, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Recognised as one of the most influential composers of the late Renaissance, his music is seen as an expression of faith; a theology in which unity is found within diversity, an music is a prayer in itself.
The Southwell Consort mark this anniversary with music by Palestrina and some of his contemporaries in a service at St Dominic's Priory Church, London.
The Prior, Fr Matthew Jarvis, reflects on the relationship between music and the sacred, Dominican spirituality and the canonisations of Blesses Pier Giorgio Frassati, a member of the Thirds Order of St Domonic, and Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint.
