The 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships gets underway in Tokyo, with over 2000 athletes expected to take part from over 200 different countries.

The first medals will be handed out in the men and women鈥檚 35km race walks, and the fastest men in the world will take to the track at the National Stadium for the preliminary heats of the 100m.

Great Britain won bronze in the mixed 4x400m relay at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and the first session concludes with qualifying for the final later today.
