European Folk Day, and Folk Album of the Year Award

Anna Massie with the very best of folk and roots music from Scotland and beyond.

In the first hour of the programme, we celebrate European Folk Day, which falls on 23 September. We play traditional folk tracks from across Europe, selected using a unique Travelling Folk method... As Scottish football teams Aberdeen, Celtic and Rangers prepare to face European teams from Norway, Greece, Austria, Ukraine and Portugal, we highlight artists from each of those countries and celebrate their unique traditional music.

And in the second hour, we chat to David Agnew, chief executive and artistic director of Sound Roots, a charity which has just announced the jury for the inaugural Folk Album of the Year Award. He tells us about the work the charity does to help support folk artists and how the awards will work.
