Episode 1 of 6

We meet the Maclennan family, who run the Valhalla fishing boat, plus a trip with the shepherds to the island of Pabbay.

Situated at the southern tip of the isle of Harris, the town of Leverburgh boasts a small but healthy fishing industry, a ferry port, plus constant sea traffic to the numerous islands in the sound of Harris.

The area is remote but for the small population some hope is on the horizon - for the first time in 60 years a housing scheme is underway. There are many daily challenges to overcome living in a remote location, but the strong sense of community in Leverburgh ensures that their combined strengths are for the wider benefit.

Tha baile beag an t-Òib a’ laighe aig fìor cheann a deas Eilean na Hearadh, le gniomhachas iasgaich, port aiseag, agus eathraichean eile a’ frithealladh na h-eileanan meadhan caolas na Hearadh.

Tha an sgire iomallach, agus airson an sluagh beag tha fuireach ann, tha dochais air faire - airson a’ chiad turas ann a tri-fichead bliadhna, tha sgeama taigheadais air toiseachadh. Tha iomadh dùbhlan laitheil mu choinneamh gach duine tha fuireach ann an aite iomallach, ach le coimhearsnachd laidir, tha creideas ann a bhith tarraing còmhla son maith a h-uile duine.

In Gaelic with English subtitles.
