When Police drag a woman from a burning car on the M2 motorway they are surprised to find that she can recall neither her name nor how she got there. She carries no formal means of identification, has an unusual, unplaceable accent – maybe Dutch, maybe Scandinavian - and is unable to recall anything about her past or why she is in N. Ireland.
Amy, as she is dubbed, due to the fact that the car she was driving was hired in the name of a dead woman called Amy Fielding, is in good health and likely between 55 and 60 years, but all attempts to identify her fail, and a trawl of consulates, airlines and border agencies draws a blank. A psychiatric assessment is inconclusive; she has had a complete memory loss possibly due to an unspecified trauma, but with no obvious head injury. All they can hope is that time will prompt a recovery.
A PSNI Detective Sergeant, Lucy Canavan, is tasked with her immediate welfare and discovering who this woman is. A picture of Amy is widely circulated but without result. Until one evening Lucy’s friend Marc who works for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Rewind team tells her that he just might have seen Amy in some 2002 news footage he’d been archiving. It’s a glancing image of a woman of about 30 and she is walking across the background during the interview with Eric Voight, a celebrity health guru popular in N Ireland 30 years earlier. The woman, who looks similar to Amy, suddenly becomes aware she is in frame and ducks out of shot. The picture quality is poor and she is far from identical to Amy but the look of fear and vulnerability flashing across her face strikes a chord with Lucy - this could be her. But why has no one any idea who this woman is, and what was her connection to Eric Voight?
