César Franck's Flute Sonata from Ryedale

Flute and vocal music from the Ryedale Festival performed by Radio 3 New Generation Artists and orchestral music by Britten and his contemporaries including a Walton piano concerto

Mark Forrest concludes his week of highlights from the Ryedale Festival in Yorkshire with performances from Radio 3 New Generation Artists tenor Santiago Sánchez and flautist Elizaveta Ivanova. Elizaveta plays the flute arrangement of César Franck's much-loved romantic sonata for violin. And also in today's programme orchestral music from Benjamin Britten and his British contemporaries. Today, Ralph Vaughan-Williams's Fifth Symphony, written during the period of the Second World War, and a rare chance to hear William Walton's Sinfonia Concertante for piano and orchestra with pianist Clare Hammond and the ѿý Symphony Orchestra.
