A Piano Full of Feathers, and the Scottish International Storytelling Festival
A Piano Full of Feathers is a new play opening at Perth Theatre tomorrow, telling the story behind the song White Christmas by Irving Berlin, the best-selling single of all time.
Playwright Jane Livingstone discusses A Piano Full of Feathers, her new play which is opening at Perth Theatre tomorrow night. It takes as its inspiration all the ways the festive favourite White Christmas has left an impression on our history and culture, as well as giving a fascinating insight into the life of its creator, the era-defining American composer and songwriter Irving Berlin.
The world’s largest annual celebration of storytelling takes place right here in Scotland each year, and its 2025 edition kicks off this evening. The Scottish International Storytelling Festival’s theme this year of Lights of the North explores Scotland’s northern identity. Over the 11 days of the festival, some of the north’s most celebrated storytellers from Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Germany will join leading voices from Scotland to bring a rich programme of traditional storytelling to venues across the country. Amongst the events being held is Land of Many Waters, which sees Scottish storyteller Eileen Budd and singer and artist David McAlmont of music duo McAlmont & Butler present a narrative blend of storytelling, songs and visual arts, with sound design and traditional rhythms from Debbie Armour. Eileen and David join Len to chat about their event.
