This Friday night, Soweto presents concert highlights from gifted Glasgow based saxophonist Matt Carmichael and Grammy-award winning German public broadcast ensemble, the WDR Big Band. Matt has shared three albums to date, and his most recent record titled “dancing with embers” was released earlier this year.
The musicians came together back in April at RWTH Aachen University, for a performance titled “Scottish Jazz Fantasies”. They showcased some of Matt's compositions, specially arranged for the WDR Big Band by their chief conductor, American saxophonist and member of the fusion band “Yellow Jackets”, Bob Mintzer. Expect music that blends influences of the Scottish Highlands and jazz, with a vast big band sound.
