The Inextinguishable

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales and Arvo Volmer perform Nielsen's 4th Symphony, alongside Vaughan Williams, a UK Premiere by Ester Mägi, and Helen Grime's Trumpet Concerto.

Arvo Volmer joins the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales to conduct a varied concert on the theme of nature. Vaughan Williams’ overture to The Wasps begins the programme, opening with the raspy buzz of swarming wasps. Ester Mägi’s Bukoolika takes its inspiration from herding songs and birdcall in this inwardly gentle, wistful, and sometimes awestruck contemplation of nature, and Helen Grime’s night-sky-blue depicts the natural world after dark, with trumpeter Matilda Lloyd making her debut with the Orchestra for this performance. Nielsen's 4th Symphony completes the programme, a masterpiece in which he expresses the inextinguishable spirit of life.

Presented by Verity Sharp, live from Brangwyn Hall, Swansea.
