Under fire in Estonia, HQ falls and Shep takes command. Back home, there are goodbyes, scars, and one final performance to mark the end of duty and the start of something new.
As Operation Hedgehog reaches its dramatic conclusion, the Scots brace for a final assault. Under relentless indirect fire, Maka and the jocks dig deep – both physically and mentally – to hold their position. When an ‘enemy’ drone identifies the Battle Group Headquarters, it is swiftly taken out, forcing Officer Shepherd to assume full command in the field. The pressure is immense and unrelenting, but as the klaxon sounds to signify end of exercise, Maka earns formal recognition for his graft, and the battalion celebrates a hard-fought and symbolic victory.
Back home, the journey continues in a quieter but no less emotional way as Laura and Josh prepare for deployment to Cyprus. Laura faces the difficult task of saying goodbye to her family, while Josh shares a final celebration with loved ones before his imminent departure alongside his girlfriend and their dog.
We meet Rory - the pony major - whose role is now to care for the regiment’s beloved mascot, Shetland pony Cruachan IV. As he reflects on his service in Afghanistan and the life-changing injuries he sustained, Rory offers a deeply personal perspective on resilience, duty and recovery.
Meanwhile, piper Ben prepares for his final performance at the Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo. After year’s of service, and with army life being the only thing he knows, Ben is leaving to begin a new chapter in his life as he heads to Canada with his girlfriend, a highland dancer he hasn’t seen in seven months. Their reunion at the airport sets the stage for one last performance together, which blends tradition, farewell and hope.
From the trenches to the parade ground, and in the quiet moments of departure, this is the end of one mission and the beginning of many new chapters.
