Nottingham Liberal Synagogue, part of the Progressive Judaism movement, guide us into the Sabbath with their musical Friday evening service, known as Erev Shabbat.

Led by Rabbi Gili Zidkiyahu alongside co-Rabbi Josh Levy, this inclusive musical service welcomes all members of the community together to usher in the Sabbath.

With liturgical guidance from our prayer leaders, the service blends ancient psalms and prayers, including the Sh’ma (prayer and declaration of faith) and a silent Amidah (offering time for personal reflection) with poetry and hymns.

After the blessing of the challah, a traditional Jewish bread, and the Kiddush (sanctification of the wine), the community enjoy a light bring-and-share supper in the synagogue and talk about what being part of the Progressive Judaism movement means to them.
