DJ K’s mixtape
Verity Sharp presents an ear-bending journey into the sonic universe of DJ K, one of Brazil’s most inventive producers.
Verity Sharp presents an ear-bending mixtape from Brazilian sonic alchemist DJ K. Growing up in Heliópolis, the largest favela of São Paulo, DJ K began producing music at 17, emerging as one of the most daring and inventive voices in contemporary Brazilian funk. Over time he developed his sound into bruxaria, an extreme subgenre characterised by metallic noise and thunderous basslines. His latest album, Radio Libertadora !, is in his own words, 'an album against the system' - a musical uprising against urban violence, social inequality and police brutality.
Elsewhere in the show, meditations on sculpture from Rie Nakajima and David Toop, and 'a requiem for a dying empire' - discordant industrial-choral music from mysterious UK duo Pram of Dogs.
