Sean Fletcher is in London to meet world-renowned adventurer, TV star and best-selling author Bear Grylls, who reflects upon his faith and favourite hymns.
Whilst Bear is often to be found in the world’s most extreme environments, from jungles to deserts, Sean is relieved to find him in the relatively tame location of his favourite London park! In an open conversation on doubt, resilience and the influential people and places that have shaped him, Bear tells stories of his childhood, his time in the special forces and the skydiving accident that changed his life. Sitting amongst the beautiful trees of Battersea Park, Bear and Sean discuss the impact of the outdoors on Bear’s faith and the hymns and songs that continue to inspire him.
Sean and Bear then travel to Saint Paul’s Hammersmith to admire church artwork close to Bear’s heart and discuss how friendship and vulnerability have been core to his faith. It’s there where Sean hears of Bear’s new book, retelling the life of Jesus and why, after all his achievements, he describes it as the best thing he has ever done.
With all hymns chosen by Bear to reflect his journey of faith:
1. Lord of the Dance – Castle Park Bandstand, Colchester
2. Dear Lord and Father of Mankind – St Andrew the Apostle, Holt
3. Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble? – Saint Wilfrid Church, Bognor Regis
4. Abide with Me – Coventry Cathedral
5. Amazing Grace – Chris Hutchinson from St Anne’s, Moseley, Birmingham
6. I Vow to Thee, My Country – Christ Church, Oxton, Birkenhead
