Although there are not many more natural things than sleep, many of us still struggle to get a peaceful night. Singer and broadcaster Joy Dunlop goes on a journey to discover what has caused our sleep to become so troubled and what we can all do to get some rest.
Joy meets Dr Megan Crawford, who works as a researcher at the Strathclyde Sleep Centre, one of the few places in the country conducting research into sleep. There, she hears how CBT therapy can be used to treat sleep disorders.
In Inverness, Joy meets psychologist Dr Rachel Allan, who gives her an insight into how sleep affects our mental health, and she takes a sleep holiday with a friend to Loch Fyne to see if some cold water immersion and yoga will help her to nod off more soundly.
We come across a host of people from around the country who are struggling with sleep. From those that find it difficult just to go to bed to others who can barely stay awake, we see how our forty winks has gone astray and what can be done.
