Daniel Sandford has been to the Taimyr Peninsular to examine how the dash to exploit Russia's untapped wealth might affect one of the last wildernesses on earth.
Although the Soviet Union tried occasionally to exploit its Arctic resources, much of Russia's far north has remained a frozen wilderness. It's the realm of the polar bear and the snowy owl. But the melting ice cap has opened up the Russian Arctic for oil exploration and commercial shipping. Daniel Sandford has been to the Taimyr Peninsular to examine how the dash to exploit its untapped wealth might affect one of the last wildernesses on earth.
