There is one otter for every mile of coastline in Shetland, making this the densest population in Europe. They thrive on the crustaceans and fish found in the coastal waters around the islands, hunting day and night. The family hunts together and will stay as a unit until the end of winter, while the young learn the necessary skills for survival and independence.
