Citizenship and Surveillance - GPS (Global Positioning System)
GPS (Global Positioning System) enables one person to be tracked by another via satellite or phone mast. It is already being used extensively by the UK emergency services, but anyone can arrange for their mobile phone to be tracked if they choose to. Fifteen year old Alisha likes to party and often gets in trouble with her parents. She agrees to let her mobile phone be tracked by her mum for seven days to test its effectiveness. Is her personal privacy going to be worth sacrificing for the sake of her mum’s peace of mind?
