With a wingspan exceeding 2m, mantas are the largest of all the rays. Once feared as dangerous devil fish, they are actually harmless giants, feeding on the small creatures and plants which make up plankton. They are also thought to be one of the most intelligent creatures in the ocean and appear almost to have individual personalities. The biologists working with them feel some are shy, some bold, some love bubbles on their tummies, some don't and they don't swim away when approached, like other sharks and fish. For their size, they have the largest brain of any fish, and yet no one really knows much about these creatures.
