The influx of cheap electronics from China meant that the luxury goods of the 90’s became the ordinary household items of the Noughties. The £19 dvd player suddenly made burglary economically unviable. However, as criminologist James Treadwell explains, this reduction in one type of crime created a rise in other offences.
