Nicky Stanley - Pick Up A Patio

A circular 'easy up' patio system

It's a very nervous but certainly a clear and concise pitch from the Hampshire Gardener. Nicky now needs to keep her cool as the Dragons start their interrogation.

After a closer inspection Julie Myers is first in with the questioning and she wants to know where it all began. The inventor recounts it all started while working for her husband's fencing company. Patios were popular but there was fundamental problem getting equipment in and out, particularly with terraced houses. She believed there had to be an easier way.

Shaf Rasul steps up next to quiz the designer; he wants to know about her market research. Nicky explains that she prefers to go straight to senior buyers as she believes they should know what their customers want. She is currently in talks with a major DIY company to trial the product in several of their stores but reveals she needs the investment before the deal can go ahead in order to manufacture the product and test it.

Money-minded Shaf moves on to how much the product will cost. Nicky explains they will sell for £259.99 and justifies this price as it is based on a normal, mid-ranged, circular patio.

Julie wants to know what she will spend the investment on. The entrepreneur breaks down her cost for the Dragon and rationalises the investment. Nicky elaborates on her future figures which look good initially but she quickly reveals they hinge on a single deal that she won't be able to deliver on, without the Dragons cash.

After some scrutiny from Shaf Rasul into her deal with the DIY company Nicky's pitch starts to crumble. She is forced to admit she hasn't yet got to the negotiation stage as she is unable to confirm if she can deliver.

Shaf Rasul doesn't believe the product has a mass market and for him the opportunity is too small. It's the end of the line for him and he declares himself out.

His rival Dragon Julie however is still undecided.

The investor likes Nicky's style and determined nature but she doesn't see it as a business opportunity right now, however she would like to follow the inventor's progress. Julie Meyer is intrigued but not convinced and for that reason, for now, she's out.

Despite her best efforts Nicky has failed to woo the Dragons but she leaves the Den with some good advice and may be a future business partner.
