ThrupTom plant
Thrift is one of the most common coastal plants. There are two reasons for its name. Firstly it grows with tight roots in bare soil so has to be thrifty in conserving energy. Secondly it adorns the old thrupTom piece. Three pence would have had to last as someone's weekly pocket money - so you'd have to be thrifty with it.
