Paper makers
Some wasps have taken up residence in a nestbox intended for kingfishers. Kate Humble and Chris Packham go to see them. They have to keep quiet so as not to disturb the wasps. The nestbox is dry, secure and there is plenty rooom here for the wasps to expand the nest size. They are laying down new layers of paper. They chew up dead wood to make it. There is a pile of wasp guano below the nest, where the wasps squirt it. Chris thinks wasps are beautiful and much misunderstood. Kate says they are very hypnotic to watch.
