Not far from the moors of Dartmoor are some verdant woodlands where Bill Oddie and John Waters go looking for beetles. Grubbing around in the undergrowth is the best way to find them. They find several iridescent ground beetles, most of which don't have common names. Carabus arvenis is a bronze colour, Carabus nitens is a metallic green. The third species is a daytime hunter. Ground beetles are fast runners that chase down their prey of other beetles and flies. They lock on to them with their jaws and munch on them.
