Gathering leaves
Squirrels are gathering up leaves instead of burying nuts, because what they’ll be doing is building their winter quarters, a nice winter drey which is bigger and even cosier. On those bleak wintry days they’ll be nice and warm. Of course grey squirrels don’t hibernate, they just don’t get out so much, that’s all. Very sensible.
