Main content

Catholic students on the Pope, birth control and the size of the Italian family.

Italy has one of the lowest birth rates in Europe and there are genuine fears that future generations will be able to support an expanding elderly population. With that in mind, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ spent a morning with a group of 17 year olds in an Italian college close to the Vatican to canvass their views on family life. What do they think of Pope Benedict and church teaching on contraception? Who are the major influences on their moral and ethical opinions? What do they make of the idea of a condom machine being installed in their college, replicating a recent move at a nearby college?
