Five Emigrant Ships
Helen Mark reveals that some of the Scottish emigrants who came to Ulster didn't find all they were hoping for and many had to move onwards again to America.
The song "Thousands are sailing to Amerikay" tells of the five emigrant ships which departed Ulster to start the waves of emigration throughout the century. There's an account of the awful conditions on the coffin ships.... (Broadcast: 22/05/1999)
