Humphrey Lyttelton changed the sound of his band in the late 1950s while Ronnie Scott and Tubby Hayes made jazz sit up and take notice with their short-lived but well rmembered Jazz Couriers.
All points from Alex Welsh and Ben Webster to singer Esperanza Spalding and leader Tony Kofi are featured. Alex Welsh plays on a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Jazz Club with none other than Dickie Wells on trombone while Ben Webster plays a traditional tune as only Ben Webster can.
Tony Kofi pays homage to pianist Thelonius Monk while Esperanza Spalding might come up with music that’s a little different but she’s just been nominated for a Grammy.
