Jeremy Clarkson explores the science and the appeal of rapid transit. Why do some of us love going fast while others hate it? To find out, he goes on the ultimate thrill ride in New Zealand, gets thrown to the lions, and visits the drag boat racers with a one in ten chance of being killed each year.Even his mother is roped in, screaming, "quite the worst moment of my life", as he persuades her to hurtle round Blackpool's rollercoaster with him. Finally, he puts himself to the ultimate test: bobsleighing down a mountain.As he meets more and more extreme thrill seekers, Clarkson discovers it may be the speed freaks who have made the world we know today.
