Wild ancestor
Mouflon live in the mountains of Corsica. The mouflon is our best guess of how the ancestor of the domestic sheep looked and lived. The mouflon is shy and difficult to get near, but it may have been simple to tame. It is agile rather than fast, so it is easier to control than an antelope. It is also nomadic, because its pastures are scattered about the mountains, and so tame ones would be happy to be moved by their owners. Finally the males are solitary and only rejoin the female herds in the breeding season, when they drive the herd about and defend it from rivals. During domestication, human shepherds could have taken over the ram's position of authority in the herd.
