Whistling with the Marsalis Family

A selection of the best in jazz music.

In a tribute to jazz educator Ellis Marsalis, the family pay tribute to their outstanding father. They also include a few other musicians in the tribute, but Jason Marsalis does the whistling while Wynton plays trumpet on a Charlie Parker original. There鈥檚 also some very smooth tenor from Eddie 鈥楲ockjaw鈥� Davis and Nancy Wilson sings 鈥榰nrehearsed鈥� in the 1980鈥檚. Dinah Washington sings the blues at breakneck speed and Cab Calloway contributes to the boogie-woogie scene of the late 40鈥檚. There鈥檚 unreleased sides from blue singer Ottilie Patterson and a giggling Ella sings what started out to be a sad song.
