Chichester becomes Lord Deputy
Sir Arthur Chichester is appointed Lord Deputy of Ireland. Chichester hadn’t been at all happy with the terms afforded O’Neill at Mellifont, which he considered overly generous, and which hampered his own agenda for the redistribution of Irish lands. Would his elevated position offer him the chance to undermine the Treaty?
