A selection of the best in jazz music.
The Classical Jazz Quartet literally take the work of Tchaikovsky and put it into a jazz context with a great respect for the original. At another part of the musical spectrum, there’s music from the Jive Aces who sound like Louis Prima would in the 21st century. Also there are some ‘old masters’ who recorded towards the end of their lives. Benny Carter, Red Norvo, Horace Parlan and Red Mitchell recorded in Sweden in 1985. Charles Mingus with two others as captured on tape in 1957 joined up with Danny Moss plus two others who gave their all just a few years ago — thankfully, again, someone pressed the record button at the right time! Humphrey Lyttelton in a fairly rare quartet setting with singer Cab Kaye and New Orleans singer Meschiya Lake with a Duke Ellington tune.
