Unemployment hits a 17-year high and UK Coal fined over mining fatalities

Unemployment has risen to 2.64m, the highest level for 17 years. UK Coal has been ordered to pay £1.2m over the deaths of four miners, including a Derbyshire man.

Unemployment has risen to 2.64m, the highest level for 17 years. The number went up by 128,000 in the three months to October. Colin speaks to Steve Dawson, a Derby man who is motivated, experienced and qualified yet is struggling to find work.

UK Coal has been ordered to pay £1.2m over the deaths of four miners, including a Derbyshire man.

Paul Hunt from Swadlincote and two others died at Daw Mill colliery near Coventry and one man died at Wellbeck Colliery in Nottinghamshire between 2006 and 2007.
