Manchester Ship Canal - The Daniel Adamson

The Daniel Adamson was converted into an art deco cruise boat used to sail along the Manchester Ship Canal. But over time, this once iconic tug fell into disrepair.

The Daniel Adamson is a century old tugboat that was later converted into an art deco cruise boat used by the rich and famous to sail along the length of the Manchester Ship Canal. But over time, this once iconic tug fell into disrepair.
Vandalised and no longer of use, it was destined for the scrap heap until it was saved at the 11th hour by a group of volunteers who went onto to form the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society.
The group now consists of 60 plus volunteers, many of them ex-ship canal workers, who between them commit two to three days a week with the aim of restoring the tug to its former glory so it can once again sail along the Manchester Ship Canal.

The Internet led to 20 people gathering, many of them strangers, who would go onto to create their own society which now has its own webpage and online community.
Computers are also being used by the group as a research tool, playing a central role in the restoration of the boat (i.e. used to source engineering contractors and parts).
