Death of the bank safety deposit box
There's concern that British Asians are being forced to store valuables at home because banks are no longer offering safety deposit boxes. The majority of high street banks will no longer take items and now Barclays, one of the biggest on the high street , is asking people to take their items out of banks. Asians often own tens of thousands of pounds in high quality gold jewellery and many say they're struggling to find anywhere to keep it. The banks say demand is declining and it's an expensive service but Conservative MP Paul Uppal has urged them to reconsider. Asian Network’s Catrin Nye has been looking at the issue.
